It’s large space and quiet surroundings make Callisham Cross ideal for Section, Group, District and even County camps, both short and long, as well as being ideally situated as a base camp for exploring Dartmoor, and convenient for visits to Plymouth, South Devon and Cornwall. The site is available to be booked by Scout and Guide Groups, Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Teams and accredited Youth Organisations.
The campsite consists of two fields of approximately 100mtrs x100mtrs each. Each field is considered as one site, although a small area in each field is available for Duke of Edinburgh Award Expedition teams. The field nearest the gate is ‘Field 1’ and the field at the far end is ‘Field 2’. Water is provided by a private borehole there is one tap on site between the two fields. There is an on-site facility for emptying chemical toilets, also located in field 1 and two sheds in each field which are used to house chemical toilets which are provided, please ensure these are cleaned after use.
Trench/pit fires and grease traps are allowed on site, but area must be cleared and turf replaced after use. Limited firewood can be found in the woodpiles. There is absolutely NO access to the woods. This condition has been imposed on us by the owner of the land – The Forestry Commission who regularly visits and inspect the woods.
