A Special Scouting Connection with Barbara

On Founders’ Day, members of 1st Stonehouse and Joe from 19th Plymouth had the privilege of visiting Parkwood Nursing Home to meet Barbara, a lifelong Scouter with a deep passion for the movement.

Joe had reached out to share Barbara’s story, explaining how Scouting has been a central part of her life and how she still enjoys sharing her memories with her carers. In response, a visit was arranged to spend time with Barbara and bring a touch of Scouting spirit to her day.

During the visit, the Scouts and residents took part in Easter crafts, clay painting, and a lively game of bingo, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere. The highlight of the day came when Barbara was invited to become an honorary member of 1st Stonehouse—an offer she was thrilled to accept. Joe led the investiture, marking a truly special moment in celebration of her lifelong dedication to Scouting.

A huge thank you goes out to the leaders, young people, Parkwood carers, residents, Barbara’s daughter Debbie, and of course, Barbara herself for making this event so meaningful. The Scouts are already looking forward to their next visit and continuing this wonderful connection.

This heartwarming event was a perfect way to celebrate Founders’ Day, embracing the values of friendship, community, and the enduring spirit of Scouting. ⚜️
