Plymouth Scout District is home to Scouting across the city — from Devonport and Stonehouse to Roborough and everywhere in between. We bring together young people aged 4 to 25, giving them the adventures, skills and friendships that shape who they become.
Everything you see here is made possible by our volunteers — leaders, supporters and district team members who give their time because they believe in what Scouting does for young people and communities.
Scouting in Plymouth
Scouting has been part of Plymouth life for over a century. Today, Plymouth Scout District supports more than a dozen groups across the city, each with their own leaders, identity and community — all united by the same values: adventure, respect, and preparing young people for life.
We’re part of the wider South West Scouts region and connected to the national Scout movement, while remaining rooted in the communities, coastline and countryside that make Plymouth unique.
What Plymouth Scouts does
The district exists to support its groups — not to run things from the top. In practice, that means:
- Helping group leaders with training, resources and guidance
- Running district-wide events and activities across all sections
- Welcoming and developing new volunteers
- Managing Blindman’s Wood, Gillwood and Callisham Cross campsite — three fantastic sites available to all groups
- Connecting Plymouth Scouts with the wider regional and national community
From Squirrels to Network — there’s a place for everyone
Plymouth Scouts welcomes young people from age 4 right through to 25, across six sections:
Squirrels (4–6) · Beavers (6–8) · Cubs (8–10½) · Scouts (10½–14) · Explorers (14–18) · Network (18–25)
Run by volunteers, for young people
Plymouth Scouts is run entirely by volunteers — from the section leaders who turn up every week to the district team who support them. Our District Lead Volunteer is Martin Limburn, supported by teams covering volunteer development, programme, 14–24 provision, IT and communications, and more.
Three great sites, right on your doorstep
Plymouth Scout District runs two outdoor sites for use by groups across the district and beyond:
Blindman’s Wood — our woodland camp and activity site, also home to the Plymouth Scouts shop.
Callisham Cross Campsite — a dedicated camping and outdoor site for overnight and multi-day programmes.
Gillwood Campsite –
